What made you choose Centrica Energy?
For me, it was a combination of the rotational nature of the graduate programme and the people I met during the recruitment process. When I came to Aalborg for my interviews, I had some really good conversations that gave me a positive impression of Centrica Energy and helped me decide it was right place for me.

What have you been getting involved in during your first rotation?
I’m part of the Intraday Physical Trading Analytics team, where we provide tools, analysis and strategies to support intraday power asset trading.

So far, I’ve mainly been working with batteries and looking at different auxiliary balancing services across a number of countries. My work has included back-testing strategies, market analysis and bid activation analysis, so I’ve had the opportunity to get involved in some really interesting areas from the start.

What’s been the best part of graduate life so far?
Definitely the people and the exposure you get early on. Everyone is approachable and genuinely willing to teach you, which makes it much easier to learn, ask questions and build your knowledge.

There’s also the opportunity to rotate across the UK, Denmark and Belgium. That gives you international exposure and the chance to develop a much broader understanding of the business.

Is there anything you’re particularly proud of so far?
I’m proud that I’ve already been able to deliver analysis for my team that provides valuable insights and can help inform wider business decisions around batteries.

I’ve also built strong relationships with my colleagues, which has helped me collaborate effectively and feel more confident contributing to the team.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying?
Be curious and proactive. Before joining, try to build your understanding of the industry by speaking to people who already work in the field and reading about it.

I found DTU’s online Renewables in Electricity Markets course and BTU’s Energy Trading, Portfolio and Risk Management course really helpful for building a strong foundation before I started the programme.

I’d also recommend speaking to current graduates. It’s a great way to get a better understanding of the programme and the opportunities it can offer.
