Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

We’re the pride of Ireland. Bord Gáis Energy have been powering the nation’s homes and businesses for almost 40 years. But now, we’re so much more than just gas and electric. Through our unique combination of household heroes and energy assets, we’re at the heart of the energy transition in Ireland, strengthening the country’s energy security and helping customers get ready for a net zero future.

About Your Role

Step into a career where your curiosity, determination, and appetite for hands‑on learning really count. As a Plumbing Apprentice, you’ll play a vital role in helping households enjoy reliable, efficient heating - while building a future‑ready skillset you can be genuinely proud of.

Whether you’re changing direction, starting fresh, or looking for a role with real purpose, this is your chance to grow. What matters most is your drive to learn, your problem‑solving spark, and your commitment to doing great work with care and confidence.

At a SOLAS training centre, you won’t just learn the basics - you’ll develop the skills, qualifications, and practical experience to thrive. You'll develop the skills and experience needed to install, maintain and repair plumbing and heating systems - from everyday domestic work through to emerging technologies such as heat pumps, solar hot water systems, smart heating controls and full heating system installations. You’ll learn how to keep systems running safely and at their best, bringing older systems back to life and making smart upgrades that boost performance. With the support of experienced engineers, you’ll build the confidence, capability, and know-how to make a real difference from day one.

This is a role where you'll make a real impact. You'll be out in the community, meeting customers, solving problems, and keeping homes safe and warm. No two days are the same - from fixing faults and maintaining plumbing and heating systems, to installing new technologies and helping customers run their systems more efficiently and reduce energy use. Every job is a chance to make a real difference.

If you’re looking for a career with purpose, progression, and hands‑on learning - and you want to feel supported as you grow - this could be your next step. Bring your ambition. Bring your curiosity. We’ll help you turn it into a career that makes a difference.

Here's what we’re looking for:

  • You must be based in, or close to Cork

  • Minimum of five passes at Leaving Certificate level, including Mathematics

  • A valid full driving licence permitting the holder to drive in Ireland

  • Ability to travel between customer and work locations as required

  • Genuine interest in learning the plumbing trade and developing a long-term technical career

  • Comfortable carrying out practical work and using hand and power tools

Here’s what's in it for you:

  • You’ll gain a QQI Advanced Level 6 Craft Certificate in Plumbing

  • Starting salary of €15,531 rising to €23,049 at 1 year, €34,573 at 2 years, & €41,487 after 3 years of your apprenticeship, with other add ons on top.

  • We’re committed to your growth. Throughout your apprenticeship, we’ll invest in your development to help you work towards becoming a Heating Engineer. As you near completion, we’ll support you in maximising your chances of securing a permanent role - & for those who succeed, our support continues as you progress towards becoming a fully qualified Gas Engineer.

Please note: We receive a high volume of applications for our apprenticeship opportunities and may close this advert early if enough applications are received. To avoid missing out, we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.
